A custom designed pool is surrounded by a stone border and landscaped terraces that echo and enhance the dramatic contemporary architecture of the house. To execute the design concept required a high level of creativity and skill on the part of everyone involved—no cookie-cutter solutions were adequate to the job.

Hickey Construction created an impressive front entry with an adjacent custom fabricated wall of curved translucent glass and Red Mangaris wood cladding. The entry itself is a custom 60” x 108” center pivot door clad in Mangaris wood, a premium hardwood with a rich red color and fine ribbon markings that echo the ribbing of the glass.

Hickey Construction collaborated with local artist Joseph Watts to design and build a sculptural fountain at the front of the house on Nightingale Drive. Adjacent walkways are made of custom terrazzo tiles embedded with mother-of-pearl. The curved window of ribbed glass was also custom fabricated for the project.

Poolside, custom stone was used to create walkways and steps to upper and lower levels. Quarried in Costa Rica, the unusually beautiful stone was embedded with seashells, revealing its sedimentary origins. It arrived in slabs and was cut to fit the design.

Hickey Construction added a custom fire element to the patio landscape—an elegant circular fire pit made of glass rocks. At the edge of the patio, a ¾" glass railing extends along the perimeter of the property, preserving wide views of the city, while shielding residents and guests from a 100 foot drop to the property below.

This outdoor seating area has a second custom sculpture from Studio Joseph Watts, as well as a fireplace and wall-mounted television designed by Hickey Construction. Surrounded by the same Mangaris wood used at the front of the house, the TV patch is protected from the elements by a glass screen.

In the evening, the glow of the pool echoes the glow of lights from the city below. Deck chairs sit on a custom terrazzo disc embedded with mother of pearl.
